Announcing the Safety Task Force

Davis Joint Unified recognizes that the issue of student safety is not something we face alone, nor something we can fully address in isolation. To strengthen our safety net, we need our community’s support to identify risks and find ways to implement improvements in a timely manner.

The Davis Joint Unified School District cordially invites you to participate in a Safety Task Force. The Safety Task Force is designed to provide the Davis Joint Unified District with community input on a spectrum of safety-related considerations, challenges and solutions. The Safety Task Force process will also serve to direct feedback to a variety of school safety-related plans, including our Facilities Master Plan, scheduled to be finalized in May for Board of Education consideration.

All Safety Task Force meetings will take place in April 2018, and please see the schedule here. The Task Force meetings are open to the public and will include Spanish language interpretation.

Wednesday, March 14 marks a day of national interest around gun control activism. Our schools, depending on the level of interest from students, are prepared to engage students in discourse and activities that model civic engagement.  We also know some students will want to be part of the walkouts that are occurring nationally. As a school district we support student First Amendment rights, but must ensure student safety and uphold district policies and administrative regulations.  We share with you the following guidance so our community is clear on how Davis Joint Unified will be approaching any student walkouts.

We need your feedback!
DJUSD is asking for parent/guardian and staff feedback that will help with our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP helps the district connect the funding we receive with the goals we have established, and parent/guardian input, as well as staff input, plays a critical role in identifying these goals. There are separate 10 minute surveys for staff members, parents of elementary students, parents of middle school students, and parents of high school students. If you have children in multiple levels please take each survey that applies.
Thank you so much for your time and feedback. It is greatly appreciated!

Route Changes Include:

  • When leaving Davis High School or North Davis Elementary and traveling eastbound:

Follow the detour signs through Community Park to the intersection of F Street and 14th Street.  At F Street and 14th Street, enter into the bike lane and ride until you reach F Street and 11th Street.  At F Street and 11th Street, a crossing guard will assist you with crossing F Street.  Then travel to H Street and follow the detour signs to the H Street tunnel.

  • When traveling from Holmes Jr. High and traveling westbound:

Go through the H Street tunnel.  Follow the detour signs on H Street headed south towards 11th Street.  At 11th Street, continue to F Street where the crossing guard will assist you across the street.  Then travel to B Street.  At B Street turn north towards 14th Street.  There is a crossing guard at B and 14th.

  • Do not cut-through the apartment parking lots between F Street and H Street.
  • Do not ride your bike the wrong way on the road.

A map of the detour can be found here.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Today, October 11, experts have determined the air quality in Davis is unhealthy for all groups. The smoke from wildfires in our region continues to impact our city and county.

School remains in session but we continue to monitor the situation and the communications from the Yolo Solano Air Quality Management District and the County of Yolo.  Safety remains a top priority for our school community.  Individuals are encouraged to stay indoors with windows closed.   Students arriving at school this morning will be directed inside to multipurpose rooms or classrooms.  Students will remain indoors during recess, lunch and PE.  Athletic activities are being reviewed and updates will be available on the District and Davis website and Facebook throughout the day.

If you have a student with health concerns, please contact your school office.

Further questions about smoke conditions can be sent to Maria Clayton,  DJUSD Public Information Officer at mclayton@djusd.net.

Safety at DJUSD Schools - Monday, October 16th will be the start of DSIS’ Safety Week. Over the course of that week, students and staff will participate in a series of emergency drills to practice procedures that we would use in an actual urgent situation. As part of that effort, the school district will be sending out a TEST of our Emergency Communication System to the phone numbers, emails and mobile text numbers for emergency contacts for each of our students. The purpose of that “Test Message” is to ensure our parent community understands how, and in what form, you will be messaged in the event of a real emergency and to identify gaps in emergency data that can then be addressed in advance of an urgent event. Important Note For Split Site Parents/Guardians – your student may participate in emergency drills at any of the DJUSD schools that they attend.  Parents/Guardians and Emergency contacts may also receive the emergency alerts for other schools that they attend.  If you receive an automated call, it is very important that you listen to the details so that you can relay any of the information to your children who may be in transit between DJUSD schools.

CONSIDER OPTING IN TO TEXT MESSAGES FOR FUTURE EMERGENCY ALERTS.

If you are new to our school or the school district or haven’t already opted in to receive emergency texts, please consider doing so by texting 67587 from a mobile phone number on record with your student information (on record with our office/included in your online reenrollment.) Learn more about Emergency Texting Service at http://www.djusd.net/txtmsg

As a reminder, all emergency and important automated school communications sent through our SchoolMessenger system will be sent from the number 1877-539-7855.  If you call back this number, you are able to access any recent messages sent to you.  We encourage you to save this number in your Contacts or Caller ID as DJUSD Alert/Message. In this way, you will recognize when an emergency alert or important message is being sent to your phone from our school or school district.

If you have any questions, please contact our office or reach out directly to the DJUSD  Public Information Officer Maria Clayton at mclayton@djusd.net

Important Peanut Allergy Information from the School Nurse:

This letter is to inform you that a student in your child’s school has a severe peanut/nut allergy.  Strict avoidance of ingestion or contact with peanut/nut products is the only way to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction.  We are asking for your assistance in providing a safe school environment for all students.  To reduce the risk of exposure the classrooms and library will be peanut/nut free.  Please do not send any peanut/nut products for your child or others to eat for lunch, snack, or special treats.  If your child has eaten peanuts or nut products before school, please be sure your child’s hands have been thoroughly washed prior to arriving in the classroom.  Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have any concerns or need additional information, please contact me. The first day of school is August 23, 2017.  This is going to be a great year at DSIS and I am looking forward to seeing all students!  One important change this year is that all 7th to 12th grade students must attend a mandatory orientation session at DSIS on August 23rd.  The sessions are at 9:00 and 1:00 and will be held in the Orange room.  After the orientation students will be able to briefly meet with their supervising teacher to arrange your weekly meeting time.  You will also have your school picture taken on this day.  It is important that all students have their picture taken so that your school ID can be created.  We look forward to seeing all students on August 23rd!
